How the Child Care Subsidy Works

The current Child Care Subsidy (CCS) system includes the following key features:

  • The maximum CCS rate increased from 85% to 90%
  • Families earning $80,000 or less may receive up to 90% subsidy
  • Families earning above $80,000 receive a tapered subsidy, depending on income, up to the annual income limit set by the Australian Government
  • Families with more than one child aged 5 or under may receive a higher subsidy for younger children
  • Additional support is available for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, including access to subsidised hours regardless of activity level, subject to eligibility
  • The subsidy is calculated based on a Government hourly rate cap

At Little Stars Early Learning & Kindergarten, we understand that these changes can be confusing. Our team is here to support you and answer any questions you may have about your Child Care Subsidy.

Current Child Care Subsidy Entitlement

Your Child Care Subsidy is calculated based on three main factors set by the Services Australia:

1. Combined Family Income

Your total household income determines the percentage of subsidy you may receive.

2. Activity Test

The number of subsidised hours you’re eligible for depends on recognised activities such as work, study, or training.

3. Type of Care

The subsidy also varies depending on the type of child care service, such as long day care or family day care.
